The Great Commission is to make disciples who will continue to do what Jesus did. Mathew 28:19-20 paraphrases go teach disciples, in every people group, to do what Jesus commanded His first disciples to do.
19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,20 teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Many Christians have a wrong understanding of what the Great Commission of Jesus Christ is. The Great Commission of Jesus is not just to preach the Gospel to everyone, but to make disciples so the Gospel can be effectively preached to everyone. The Great Commission includes teaching disciples to do all the things Jesus taught His early disciples to do. That includes healing the sick and raising the dead!
A commission is
(1) An authorization to perform certain duties or tasks, or to take on certain powers,
(2) Authority to act in behalf of another,
(3) An entrusting, as of power, authority, etc., to a person or body.
Whom Is It Given To?
The Great Commission is given to all disciples of Jesus Christ. It was originally given to Jesus' first disciples. But, because it tells them to teach disciples to obey everything they were taught by Jesus, it is perpetual.
The command was not only given to the 12 disciples, but also to you and me. How this applies to me and how it is perpetual? As Jesus says in John 8:31 "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine." If you abide in Jesus words you are truly the disciple of Him and this commandment is for you.In Luke 8 Jesus saves a demon possessed man Lageon. Lageon wants to follow Jesus as he was redeemed by Jesus. But Jesus said him, Luke 8:30 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you. So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.”
Jesus shared all your burden, sorrows and joy. Now he want you to share the only desire of HIS heart,
“Make disciples of all nations”.
Dear Brother/Sister Are you ready to share your Fathers desire and commandment?
